The first 12 weeks

He Haumaru, a care centre located in the small rural town of Te Aroha, provides new parolees with a highly supportive and supported living and learning environment to begin their integration journey. The core purpose of He Haumaru is to help build essential social, communication and lifestyle skills, as well as shedding institutionalised behaviour and thinking without distraction.

OUR FOCUS IS ON CONTRIBUTION, FUNCTIONALITY, AND WELLNESS

Post-release is the initial stabilisation phase of the RAW model. In this phase we focus on investing in social relationships and whanaungatanga by consolidating and teaching lifestyle skills (garden-to-table, wellbeing, home function and maintenance) within a pay-it-forward framework.

THE PATHWAY TO INDEPENDENCE

Once a wahine is functioning transparently and autonomously in the whare, RAW works collaboratively with all involved to plan the next phase to independence, which includes scholarship-funded education, employment or returning home.

RAW offers life-long support upon exit of He Haumaru; mentoring, education, culture, time and support are key to pro-social change.
